The Sessions That Hockey Skating Lessons
Are Taught On
Power Ice
is ice that is used by hockey players and power skating instructors
to work on hockey skating skills. It is not available to the general
public or figure skaters. All hockey skating coaches can teach on
this ice and hockey players of any level may use this ice to practice.
It is the best type of session to take a private or semi-private
lesson on. On a power ice session the skater and coach can use various
kinds of training equipment, wear full gear, practice with pucks
(NO SHOOTING!), and skate at full speed in any direction. Wendy
will teach up to 4 skaters at a time on a power ice session. These
sessions are paid for in advance by purchasing a "Power Ice
Pass" at the Ashburn Ice House front desk. The pass is good
for 1 power ice session per week from the skater's start date through
June. The amount is pro-rated throughout the season and if for any
reason the skater stops taking lessons the remaining amount will
be refunded. This pass pays for the ice use but does not include
the cost of the instruction. For occasional/irregular lessons students
can also purchase the ice on a pay as you go basis.
Public Sessions
are open to the public and have the potential to be very crowded.
Wendy will only teach one or two skaters at a time during public
session lessons. Public session lessons are the most cost efficient
but are also the most limiting. During public sessions students
cannot skate at full speed, use most training equipment, or skate
with a puck or stick. Public session lessons are best for new players
and young skaters who need to grasp the basics, or for "goalie
only" lessons. Wendy does not recommend public session lessons
for travel or house select players. Skaters pay for the public sessions
as they go by purchasing the day pass at the front desk. Lessons
are paid for separately.
The ColdRush Summer Programis offered on full exclusive ice and
payment is included in the cost of the program. Students can and
do skate at full speed, use a variety of equipment, and wear full
gear. Pucks are allowed. She will teach up to 34 players in the
targeted skill groups.
Team Training
is offered on ice that is already owned by the team. Wendy does
not negotiate with rinks for team ice. It is up to the team or organization
to purchase the ice in advance or to offer the instruction on one
of their regularly scheduled practices.
Power Group Ice
is full exclusive ice. On power group ice the students can and do
skate at full speed, use a variety of equipment, and wear full gear.
Pucks are allowed. Wendy and her group of students use this ice
exclusively. She will teach up to 35 players of similar age and
ability level in a power group. The COLDRUSH summer program is offered
on the "Power Group Ice".
